Someone complained they got a phone call from someone who was claiming their keywords were all wrong for their website, and wanting to know how much they were paying for clickthroughs, etc. They hung up on the telemarketer.... |
Even better are the ones who just cram a $49 charge on to your phone bill for the search listing you supposedly agreed to a free two year trial of two years ago. A friend had that happen on his AT&T phone bill, and AT&T refused to help him reverse the charges, instead demanding he repeatedly go and beg the crammers for relief.
But, alas, there is another way to deal with such telemarketing phone calls. Just give them all kinds of wrong information. Make it a game to see how long you can keep them on the phone for.
Them: "Sir I just want to see if you qualify for our special offer? Do you have a school in your neighborhood?"
Me: "Uh, yes"
Them: "Great, then you qualify for our special on new windows! Are your current windows double pane?"
Me: "Uh, they are double hung..."
Them: "What does double hung mean?"
(after several minutes of debating the definitions)
Me: "Um, I just remembered, they closed the school in my neighborhood two years ago. It's just an empty building now. Do I still qualify?"
Desperate salesperson: "Oh sure, you still qualify...."
I'm getting up to 30 and 40 minutes of keeping them on the phone....
